Stupendous Projects - Chris' Scratch-built 18th Century Dory

Finally, here are pictures of the dory Chris built from scratch with no plans for his Introduction to Wood class last for the fall 2007 semester. The lines are based on dories that were produced in the mid to late 18th century.  Chris researched many pictures to come up with the design of the boat.  It is constructed of clear pine and poplar using mostly 18th century building methods (such as lap and peg joints for the frame and lapstrake or ship-laping for the hull.  It is finished in oil paint that Chris researched for the exact colors. The pictures were taken at the Peace Valley Park.  Chris was hoping to get it in the water but the lake was frozen 3" thick, so it's inaugural launch will be postponed until spring.
